A new soybean cultivar, “Sojin”, was developed at the National Crop Experiment Station, RDA, in 2003. The crossing between “Danyeopkong” and “SI93001”, which was introduced from USA, was made in the summer season of 1993. After pedigree nursery from F2 to F5, the breeding line, SS93101-40-2-2, was selected for plant type and seed quality and evaluated in yield trials from 1998 to 2000 at the National Crop Experiment Station, Suwon. Regional yield trials for this line, designated as Suwon 220, were performed three years from 2001 to 2003 over five locations. Sojin has determinate growth habit, purple flower color, grey pubescene, yellow testa and light brown hilum color. The leaflet shape is lanceolate, and plant height is shorter than that of Pungsannamulkong. It is moderate resistant to Soybean mosaic virus (SMV) and seed infection diseases, including purple seed stain, mottling and pod & stem blight. The seed size of this cultivar is 9.7 gram per 100 seeds and this cultivar has spherical seed shape. The average yield was 2.54 ton/ha which was higher than check cultivar Pungsannamulkong (2.45 MT/ha) in the regional adaptation and yield trials at three locations for three years ('01-'03).
