A new sprouting soybean variety, “Dachaekong” was developed at the National Yeongnam Agricultural Experiment Station (NYAES) in 2002. It was selected from the cross Hannamkong/Eunhakong. The preliminary, advanced, and regional yield trials for evaluation and selection of this variety were carried out from 1998 to 2002. It has determinate growth habit, purple flower, gray pubescence, yellow seed coat, dark brown hilum, long leaflet shape, globular seed shape and small seed size (8.6 g per 100 seeds), and that was matured earlier than check variety, “Pungsannamulkong”. “Dachaekong” has a good quality and high yield for soybean sprout. It has high isoflavone content in sprouts (4,302 g/g). It also has been identified to have fairly good resistance to mosaic and necrotic symptom of soybean mosaic virus (SMV) which are the troublesome soybean diseases. The average yield of Dachaekong was 2.26 ton per hectare in the regional yield trials carried out in six locations of Korea from 2000 to 2002 which was 11 percents less than the check variety Pungsannamulkong.
