The researcher examines thirty-six Korean university students’ strategies for English listening in the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) and TOEFL, via verbal interviews, called immediate reflection, on what they thought during the tests. We find that students benefit from previewing the questions and options while listening for the CSAT English. In addition, students shows naive strategies more commonly with the TOEFL: identifying an attention failure, identifying expressions not understood, and memorizing key expressions. The study suggests that the EFL curriculum provide learners with training on how to keep good concentration on the storylines with multiple topics, including these four strategies – for the CSAT English, identifying the lack of a well-matched option with a learner’s current answer; and associating the given information with something other than the text (e.g. a learner’s own experience); for the TOEFL, comparing multiple topics of a text; and remembering details.
