'Asianism movement' in modern Japan was launched from the identity or the idea of common-fate community that 'Asia is one' but its methodology could not admit horizontalism. That is, the Asianism movement was based on the unequal ideology that 'Japan is the center' or 'Japan is the leading power.' In particular, Japanese Asianists who tried to realize the ideology thoroughly believed that modernized Japan must be at the centerand put Chosun and China under its influence or colonize them. Opposing Japanese government's invasion into China and complete colonization by force, they attempted to use Sun Wen as a foothold to resolve 'the issue of China.' Using Sun Wen, they employed the strategy of 'Control Chinese with Chinese' to solve 'the issue of China' and specifically planned to organize pro-Japanese groups and government. If their plan for China was implemented smoothly under Japanese government's cooperation and support, the history of East Asia would have moved to a different direction.Japanese Asianists' Asianism movement could not bringforth solidarity between Japan and China but, faced with Western powers'invasion to Asia at that time, the geographical proximity, the sharing of the same ethnic and cultural features and the consciousness of common-fate community have significant meanings for today's horizontal solidarity or the search for Asian regionalism despite the long temporal gap.
