The Yulsôngôje(列聖御製) is the collection of poems which were written by the many kings of Chosun dynasty, from Taezo to Chulzong. This article examined the change of the kings' view to the pictures and the meaning of it, by studying various kings' poems with pictures. There were not many kings who drew the pictures or wrote poems inspired by their pictures. A few kings, Sungjong, Injong, Sunjo, Injo, Youngjo etc., can be identified as the kings written poems with picture. However they drew the pictures with the limited theme drawing the Four Gracious plants like bamboo or orchid, under the strict rule of Confucianism. The poems with pictures by the kings were rare and simple repeating theme of pictures, in the early period of Chosun. However, those in the late period were abundant and various in number and in theme, too. They showed the kings' new view with the various themes, like as the custom paintings shown the daily life of ordinary people, educational paintings based on historical hero or facts, landscape paintings drawn just their mountains and rivers and maps reflected kings' will toward protection their kingdom. Especially, the poems with painting of Sukjong and Youngjo were related to the new trend of the paintings in the late period of Chosun and with the object of reenforcing royal authority. The Yulsôngôje has another important meaning that helps to find the way and state of painting collection of Chosun.
