The present study examines the efficiency of a pilot general English program implemented at university level by adopting a diffusionist model of curriculum innovation process. The first part of the study reports the results of three-stage experiments that test the efficiency of a more integrative team-teaching approach against that of the current skill-based general English program. The second part focuses on the findings and implications of a survey on the efficiency of the integrative team-teaching approach being piloted and the preference of the skill-based versus integrative approach. Based on the results of experiments, survey questionnaires, and interviews, the study attempts to search for a viable model of a general English program at university level. The findings advocate the critical role of language professionals and the interrelated nature of variables in the curriculum renovation process. Lastly, the results suggest the diffusion of innovation perspective in curriculum development and renewal.
