The ocean will be the most valuable asset and the base of life of our country in the future. This research is carried out in order to maintain security in the ocean. Especially, It analyzed about the reality and trends of maritime crime. The results are as follows: First, maritime crime occurred at the maximum to 2006 and since then the trend has decreased steadily. Second, maritime crime occurs mostly in the South Sea and the West Sea and most often occurs in March-October. Third, fraud and embezzlement・malpractice occurred most frequently in criminal law crime, On the other hand fishery crime and safety crime occurred most frequently in special law crime. Fourth, Chinese illegal fishing occurs steadily among the internationality crime. a total of 521 illegal fishing boats were enforced. and based on this, I propose the following: First, on the organizational aspects, The Korea Coast Guard should be actively operating in the South Sea, which caused a lot of crime. also that should be actively operating between March and October, which caused a lot of crime. and if necessary, it should reinforce the workforce. Second, on the legal aspects, Law on policing tasks in the oceans now, there is the Korean Coast Guard Act. However this is very scanty. so we must enact a law suitable for police work in the oceans.
