This study investigates the research trends in multimedia-assisted English vocabulary teaching and learning since 2000. All the published studies on the topic were drawn from seven major domestic journals in the field. A total of 67 studies were divided into three 5-year periods and analyzed with regard to the topics of research associated with the types of multimedia applied, the research methods, and the nature of research participants. The results of the analyses 9showed that the number of studies has increased and preferences in research topics have changed over time. Research on vocabulary studies employing computer-based courseware was the majority in the 2nd period while it drastically decreased in the 3rd period. Corpus applied studies were the most frequent among the types, and researchers strongly preferred quantitative research methods. University students were the most frequently used subjects as their research participants. This study highlights the importance of teachers’ and researchers’ awareness in technological developments in search of their potential applicability for pedagogical and research purposes.
