The species of plants covered in the 6th and the 7th edition of the Korean elementary school science textbooks including 'Inquiry Life' and 'Elementary Science' were analyzed and compared. This study was conducted focusing on the plant area. The results found in the analysis of the species of plants appeared in the science textbooks are as follows :1. In comparison on the frequency of plants appeared in textbooks, 172 species and 535 frequency appeared in the 6th. 233 species and 408 frequency appeared in the 7th. 2. The frequency of plants appeared in the 1st grade in the 6th and the 5th grade in the 7th was higher than any other grades. 3. The species of plants appeared were classified into the flowering plant and the flowerless plant. Among 129 species of plants in the 7th, 123 species(95.3%) were the flowering plant and 5 species(4.7%) were the flowerless plant. Among the flowering plants in the 7th, 65 species(52.8%) were the herbaceous plant, 52 species(42.3%) were the tree, and 6 species(4.9%) were the water plant. In conclusion, it was found that the various species of plants were appeared in the 7th textbooks than the 6th, and the units related plant in the 7th textbooks were evenly distributed by the grade than the 6th.
