Using punctuation marks in South Korean and Japanese elementary school language textbooks, individual sings are more frequently used in Korean textbooks than Japanese textbook. On the other hand, repetition using of individual sings are more frequently used in the Japanese textbooks. Similarities of using punctuation marks in Korean and Japanese textbooks, Korean textbooks use (“”) marks for conversation sentences and Japanese textbooks use (「」) marks. (( )) marks using for explaining noun words and phrases are used one time in the 2nd grade Korean textbooks and 18 times in 3rd grade Korean textbooks. In the Japanese textbook, (( )) marks are used every grade and showing tendency to increase using (( )) marks. Using number signs in both Korean and Japanese 3rd grade textbooks is very interesting. In Korean textbooks use (…) marks for ellipsis and Japanese textbooks use (-) marks. Differences in using punctuation marks, Japanese textbooks use (·) marks absolutely many times. (·) and (< >) marks are used in Japanese textbooks but in Korean textbooks, there are no (·) and (< >) marks. On the other hand, Korean textbooks use (·) marks 4 more times than (,) marks. In Korean textbooks, (?) marks used commonly but no using (?) marks in Japanese textbooks. In Korean textbooks, (!) marks are used commonly 1st to 3rd grade textbooks. But in Japanese textbook, (!) marks are used 5times in 3rd grade textbooks.
