This paper examines the role of the teacher in peer learning based on data consisting of learners' reflection. Peer learning is a reciprocal learning activity that should be mutually beneficial and involve the sharing of practical knowledge, ideas, and experience among the participants. The role of the teacher in peer learning is to support the cooperative learning process and encourage learner autonomy. However, it seems that there is no broad and practical consensus about the supporting role. In light of this situation, this study discusses the teacher support expected in peer learning by examining learners' reflection. The major findings are as follows and include the types of support and the subjects associated with them: 1) Facilitating, coordinating, and managing (direction & autonomy, interpersonal relationship & communication, team management & participation); 2) Teaching and instruction (language skill & learning content, outline & procedure); 3) Assessment and encouragement (achievement & correctness, self-efficacy & motivation); 4) Manifestation (coordination, responsibility, positivity, consideration). These findings provide a basis for further explorations of the teacher’s supporting role in peer learning, as well as opportunities for teachers to reexamine the effectiveness of their supporting involvement.
