The object of this study is to compare and investigate the preference of elementary students and teachers on poetry and to search for provision in the class, which keeps students close to poetry. Elementary students prefer poetry, which they can sympathize and indulge themselves in easily related to their own experience, which they can see creative world, which the poetic scene is concrete by the harmony of sensitive expression and content, and which the rhythmic factor is strong. On the other hand, students had difficulty on poetry, which the temporal and spatial distance with reality makes it difficult to understand, simple descriptive poem, and which is written by hard metaphor.There were some different things between teacher's preference and students'. These results show that we should consider on textbook selection and teaching-learning in poetry education. Furthermore, the study is required for detailization of student's response on poetic characteristic, systematic explanation and structualization of response process and content, and category classification and hierarchialization of response by an age group.
