Report Errors
The purpose this study is to analyze the errors made in translating Korean into Thai. The results of the analysis of the collected drafts of translation of Korean into Thai show that the errors made in translating Korean into Thai appear in many layers as follows. First, in the lexical errors, there are errors arising from the ambiguity of the word, Korean language recognition errors, metaphorical expression errors, and in the syntactical errors, literal translation errors, Korean language sentence structure recognition errors, translation omission errors, and errors in understanding the meanings of Korean idioms, etc. Additionally, there were many errors related to Korean culture. There were errors arising from the lack of understanding of Korean religion, tradition and customs, family and ancestry, society and history, etc. For efficient translation, the translator should cultivate linguistic ability to be proficient in both Korean and Thai and have interest in contrastive analysis, comparative analysis, and error analysis. Also, they should have broad knowledge of Korean politics, economy, society, and culture, and it is also important to develop diversely and utilize verb construction dictionaries, language culture dictionaries, etc.
