The main assertion of this paper is that the study on the classification of the parts of speech, and sentence constituents in Thai language are distinctively made on the basis of the co-relation of the word, parts of speech, and sentence constituents. The purpose of classifying parts of speech and sentence constituents is to understand and describe the language properly well. In the process of second language acquisition, it is significant / strongly required for a second language learner to correctly grasp the parts of speech and sentence constituents of the target language. Learners’ errors occur if the parts of speech and sentence constituents are not fully comprehended. One of the causes of Korean Thai learner’s errors is the learners overlook the linguistic characteristic of Thai language. In other words, the characteristic of isolated language is that there is no change in the form of vocabulary. Therefore, classification of parts of speech and sentence constituents in Thai plays a significant role in reducing such errors / contributes to reduce such errors. In this article, to help Korean Thai learners’ understanding, the parts of speech and sentence constituents of Thai were classified and compared to those of Korean. In addition, we investigated the type of ‘modifier’, one of the parts of speech in Thai. In particular, we studied how this ‘modifier’ is used in Thai sentences and the applications of ‘modifier’ in Thai from the perspective of ‘the multi category of parts of speech’.
