I have suggested ‘World View of Trichotomy’ differentiating itself by
keeping the very rule of ‘1-3-9-81’ way through various papers and books.
‘World View of Trichotomy’ is common in Northeast Asian Shamanism. In
each and every region of Northeast Asia, we can see the ‘Holy Numbers 3, 9
and 81’of Northeast Asian Shamanism. For this reason, it may well be inferred
that ‘World View of Trichotomy’ is the ‘Mother’s Womb of Northeast Asian
culture and philosophy’.
‘World View of Trichotomy’ was succeeded southward to the central China,
and turned into the grassroots of Taoism and its spirit of Supreme Hermit.
And this world view has also been handed down to Sundo (仙道, Korean
Taoism) and other Korean national religions. On the other hand, this world
view did its distinctive role in formulating the basic culture of Europe through
Druidism of the Celts who were among the ancient Aryans sharing the spirit
of Northeast Shamanism mostly.
This paper places its sharp attention to ‘World View oF Trichotomy’ in
Mongolian Culture. Especially, I am trying to explain the symbolic meaning of
‘9∙9 (Nine-Nine)’ in detail with full illustrations, which is just based on
‘World View oF Trichotomy’and its ‘Holy Numbers (3, 9, 81)’. The symbolic
meaning of ‘9∙9 (Nine-Nine)’ in Mongolian Culture is not to be interpreted as
‘Ninety Nine’ but as ‘Nine-Nine or Nine by Nine (9×9=81)’. Consequently,
‘Nine-Nine = 9∙9 = 9×9 = 81’has two different kinds of symbolic meaning.
First, ‘9∙9’ has an equivalent of 81(9×9) in number. In Mongolian culture,
anyone can easily find out this kind of usage such as ‘9∙9 (Nine-Nine)
Courtesy’ or ‘9∙9 (Nine-Nine) Gift’ , ‘9∙9 (Nine-Nine) Ceremony’ and ‘9∙9
(Nine-Nine) Penalty’.
The other is that: ‘9∙9’ has a symbolic meaning of ‘Very Much’, ‘Very
Many’, ‘Innumerable’ and ‘Countless’. This symbolic meaning has been
reflected in the usage of ‘9∙9 Tenggeri’ in Mongolian culture.
Therefore, these two symbolic meanings of ‘9∙9’ in Mongolian culture have
their deepest origin in ‘World View of Trichotomy’ differentiating itself by
keeping the very rule of ‘1-3-9-81’ way. And that is exactly why I suggest
that Mongolian Culture cannot be explained systematically and reasonably
with no consideration of ‘World View of Trichotomy’and its ‘Holy Numbers (3,
9, 81)’.
