This paper aims to facilitate understanding of how indigenous knowledge can be used as a foundation for developing a science curriculum for community kindergarten schools in northern Philippines. It advocates a cultural view of learning science and promotes a science curriculum that is responsive to the needs and nature of the learners. This paper has six parts: (a) Understanding the context: the land and the people of northern Philippines; (b) discussion of the importance of learning science in the preschool level; (c) a brief description of the kindergarten science curriculum in the Philippines; (d) a discussion of what indigenous knowledge is; (e) the role of indigenous knowledge in the development of a science curriculum for kindergarten; and (f) using indigenous knowledge in the kindergarten science curriculum content. In this era where science and technology affect almost all areas of life in society, and while early childhood education is recognized to have great impact in the development of every individual, it is important for educators to think of how a science curriculum for kindergarten that is culturally responsive, culturally relevant, and culturally sensitive to the needs and nature of the learners could be developed.
