This paper attempts to suggest three points in relation to the interpretation of Prov 22:17-24:22. First, Prov 22:17-21 seems to suggest, as an introduction to Prov 22:22-24:22, that the entire passage, Prov 22:22-24:22, should be read in light of Proverbs 1-9, in order for the reader to learn how to trust in YHWH once more. Second, this paper examines Prov 22:22-23:11 and thereby argues that the passage has important literary and thematic connections with Proverbs 1-9 and even with Deuteronomy. Third, this paper delves into Prov 23:26-35 where a good number of literary and thematic links with Proverbs 1-9 are soundly found. In conclusion, Prov 22:17-24:22 should be interpreted from the perspective of literary and theological context of the book itself, mainly the hermeneutical prologue of the book, Proverbs 1-9, rather than from the literary and social context construed by its proposed connections with the ANE literature.
