The society in Song Dynasty has been concentrated on inward consciousness of humankind with a fusion of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. In particular, the effects of Buddhism, especially Zen, had caused new and various changes to scholars’s poem, literature, calligraphy and painting by its unique thinking methods. Su Shi(蘇軾, 1037-1101) was a leader of the scholar in such era. When he was 49 years old, he became the Dharma heir of Donglinchangzong(東林常總,1025-1091) in Golden Dragon School(黃龍派). Chan(禪) had acted to him strongly in practical aspect as the motivation of his art. Su Shi could sublimate various Zen logics(禪理) to the art which has higher level of spiritual value by expressing Zen logics as artistic ‘Chan Will(禪意)’. ‘Chan Will had gone further his art world to the higher levels of interrelating and fusing among his poem, calligraphy, and painting. To Su Shi, Chan will had been deeply practiced and fused his worldview, outlook on life, and aesthetics viewpoint in daily life. Su Shi had expressed and fused his ‘Chan will’ transcendentally, actively, positively and lively in his various art category. It was possible from the artistic expression of an optimized ‘Chan will’ of Su Shi.
