Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader, suggests high levels of modernization and informatization along with economic independence as strategy for establishment of economic powerhouse. This article aims to throughly investigate actual status of the plan through reviewing the north korean journal "Economic Research", and conclude its characteristics and strategic implications. Steps of the policy consist of introduction of CNC technology & machine, and establishment of flexible production system, integrated production system and unmanned production system. And this study reviews process of the modernization & informatization strategy, its present condition, and accomplishment of each step. Automation of production system is being implemented according to the road map. It clearly seems that integrated production system is being actively introduced, and unmanned technology is continuously developed although it stands at an early stage, implying North Korean economy’s partial transition into capital and technology-intensive industry. Effects of the project are extensive and concrete, proved by the rapid increase in various local products (raw materials, resources, facilities and complete items). The most interesting point is the role of the military industry, which is expected to contribute to the regime’s economic development. Therefore, it is necessary to research how the strategy raises levels of the country’s economy by strengthening relations between the military and civilian industries.
