Epicureanism claims that the soul is a body, i.e., a special kind of body, which is a mixture composed of fire-like, air-like, wind-like, and nameless elements. This paper aims to explore the ontological status of these elements by inquiring what the mixture is, and attempts to defend the notion of molecule in Epicurean psychology. In light of Alexander of Aphrodisias, De Mixtione, 214, 18-215, 8, on the one hand, I argue that it is the atoms of the four elements which are in juxtaposition. In light of Lucretius, De Rerum Natura III, 262-287, on the other hand, I insist that the four elements, without being destroyed, constitute a fourfold blend. My contention is that Epicurean soul is composed of the soul-molecules, each of which is a fourfold blend of the four molecular elements, the atoms of which are in their turn juxtaposed.
