Purpose: The present study is a basic study for the application of augmented reality to verb teaching for children with language developmental disorders and is intended to examine the validity of the list of verbs obtained at the beginning of development. Methods: To verify the content validity, the first motion validity test was conducted by showing motions implemented as augmented reality to eight students majoring in language treatment in the master’s course, having them record verbs that came to their mind, and evaluating the conformity. The second motion validity test was conducted by distributing individual questionnaires to 87 students majoring in language treatment and having them see the motions in the augmented reality based communication system and mark the degrees to which they think the motions conform to the relevant verbs on the scales. The vocabulary validity was evaluated for the entire 45 items in the list of verbs by three professors in the Department of Language Treatment using 5-point Likert scales. Using the SPSS 21.0 program, descriptive statics analyses of the results of evaluation of vocabulary validity and motion validity using 5-point Likert scales were conducted. Results: The vocabulary validity showed a mean value of 4.30 indicating that vocabularies suitable for teaching children on verbs were selected. Although the verbs generally showed mean values of motion validity scores exceeding 3 points, two verbs showed low mean values in a range of 2.0-3.0. Conclusions: It could be seen that when augmented reality based communication systems are applied, things and backgrounds that complement the insufficient movements of motions and help motion recognition should be also provided. In future studies, the 3D images of the augmented reality based communication system will be complemented and the content validity will be verified with normally developing children.
