In this study, we have formed a learning community to apply STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) education in early childhood learning in order to describe the processes early childhood teachers undergo to apply STEAM education in the field, and the experiences that early childhood teachers encounter during those processes. We then attempted to examine the significance of such experiences to explore the approaches and methods of STEAM education in early childhood education. The study participants were four early childhood teachers working at A Kindergarten in Gyeonggi-do. The results of the analysis of the collected data are as follows. The experiences for field application of STEAM education that early childhood teachers acquire through learning community gatherings were divided into three categories according to the discussion topics. With such study results in the background, we proposed the significance of investigating the approaches toward STEAM education in early childhood education. This study has significance in that it detailed the process of applying STEAM education into the field of early childhood education, where research and application on STEAM education is elementary, and additionally, it proposed an improvement plan for operational methods.
