A lodging property, like a living organization, is constantly interacting with internal and external environments, thus adapting itself to the tumultuous changes taking place. In recent years, the hotel industry in Korea is working hard to meet the ever-changing challenges to survive in the fierce competition in the global environment. In order to succeed, innovative and creative marketing strategies loom large in the hostile environments. Against this backdrop, the study aimed at delving into the ever-changing external environments in depth as well as formulating innovative marketing strategies appropriate for the success of the lodging accommodations. The synopsis of the study is as follows. First of all, as an introduction, the article touches on the impacts of external environments on the lodging properties by means of literature featuring the hotel industry. Secondly, based on the in-depth analysis of the external environments, the study deals with crafting marketing plans pertinent to the size and type of hotels, with an emphasis on the mid-scale lodging accommodations. For most of the upscale hotels here in Korea are affiliated with the international hotel chains and these chains properties make most of the state-of-art marketing strategies and techniques provided by the chains headquarters. Thirdly, the study, first of its kind in Korea, will furnish practitioners with some useful knowledge and directions in the operations of their properties. In addition, it will provide the academicians interested in this field with some orientation of research in the future. The study sheds some light on the insight into the complex issue of the marketing strategies of the mid-scale lodging properties. It is hoped that future researchers touch on either the upscale or the economy hotels in the matter of planning creative marketing strategies.
