The purpose of this study is to find out the hotels that had opened in Modern Enlightenment and Japanese colonial era, and the historical meanings of modern hotels in history of Korea hotel. The Method is a historical research using books, newspapers, articles. At first, There were a few hotels such as Daebul Hotel, Steward Hotel, Sontag Hotel in Modern Enlightenment. Sontag Hotel, built in 1902 by a Korea governor was managed by Sontag and was a government guesthouse for diplomats and foreign envoys. Hotel Daebul, built in 1888 by a Japanese, was the first modern hotel in Korea and hotel customers were the westerners who visited In-cheon port. But modern hotels were driven out of hotel business because of in 1910
The second, the railway was built as a mainly military purpose by Japan imperialism in Japanese colonial era. As a new transportation, it influenced economic, cultural and tourism development. So the station hotels in Busan, Pyeongyangl, Shinuiju, Chosun hotel, were built in the station and city. Jangan and Geumgansan station hotel in Geumgang mountain were built for local, japan and foreign tourists.
The third, according to increasing inboud tourists, Modern hotels such as Bando hotel were built in the city and hotels with hot spring were built in the sights. After Korea was liberated from Japanese colonial rule in 1945, Station hotels and modern hotel continuously played a very important role in the current hotel management and Korea tourism development.
Modern hotels in korea have various socio-cultural meanings and landmark building in city. Chosun and Bando hotel played a important role of tourism in the city and introduced a modern hotel management system Geumgansan and Jangan-sa Station hotel were the first resort hotels in history of Korea hotel.
