This paper focuses on the contrast between (canonical) Intervention Effects and Covert Crossover with respect to specificity. The two phenomena are not separate but one phenomenon involved in “featural intervention” The result of the featural interaction between a potential intervener and an element that needs to be licensed determines how (in)felicitous the relevant sentence is. With this unified tool, canonical intervention structures will be classified as `Weak` Intervention Effects since the intervention effect can be canceled by specificity, whereas Covert Crossover will be classified as `Strong` Intervention Effects since co-indexed elements always block the LF-movement of their index sharer in terms of the identical feature sharing. In this argument, we can capture an important fact: Covert Crossover is not an exceptional case specificity effects but a strong case of intervention effects.
