At present nearly 700,000 Korean Chinese live in Korea. It is known that there is a fundamental difference of viewpoints on them. While Korea recognizes the korean chinese as a part of the korean communities, concerned for the heterogeneity of the korean chinese, On the contrary to Korea, China thinks that the korean chinese include in the category of ‘overseas chinese’ with paying attention to the homogeneity between korean chinese and Chinese nation. The korean chinese has the dual identity that lies at the ‘position of the Diaspora’. This study argues that the identity of korean chinese should be decided as the result of rational choice based on their own interests rather than a fixed identity and also claims that the role of ‘overseas chinese’ including korean chinese is expanding with their selecting a variety of identities.
