The purpose of this study is to analyse the realities of the US-China hegemonic competition in South China Sea, and then to prospect its future. In the strategic and economic perspective, the South China Sea is very important to the United States and China. This is the background of the competition between the two great powers. The US-China hegemonic competition has been manifested in two ways. The one is a direct strategic competition such as military demonstration or military action, and the other is an indirect approach by supporting Southeast Asian countries. The US-China hegemonic competition in the future will be depended on their maritime strategies like the status quo or destruction of the status quo. In short-term perspective, China will pursue a moderate policy on account of the lack of sea power. However, the sovereignty over islands in South China Sea is very difficult to compromise, and the US-China hegemonic competition is closely linked to their core interest and world strategies. Therefore, in long-term perspective, the US-China collision in South China Sea will be unavoidable.
