The purpose of this study was to investigate the main characteristics of expressionism on the dance works of Pina Bausch. A literal examination relating Pina Bausch and expressonism was done for doing this. The followings were identified as the result of this study: 1. Expressonism on the works of Pina Bausch was a reflection of the society and period during the era of the first world war through now. Specially, he tried to express social customs. life style, and self-actulaization of young generation in this period Those of characteristics were intensified in his Tanztheater works. 2. Main characteristics of Bausch`s choreography were so particular because of the following reasons: 1) hamonious expression with music from opera style and 2) creating new version of movement not similar with traditional way of movement techniques. 3. The main factors of world of his works were the following ones: 1) narrative. 2) happening. and 3) harmony of theater and language of dance. Specially, he emphasized on the theme of Tanztheater rather than developing forms of movement. His works generally is the combination of music language, motive, fashion, instrument, and the structure and content of works. In conclusion, it seemed Pina Bausch`s expressionism in dance was not ply the result of the development of dance in this period, was but also a transformation of modem dance. His endeavour an the modem dance. Tanztheater, are the one of the important contributions with Buto in Japen and post-modem dance in the United State.
