This study investigate the functions of community dance for local community and its inherentaesthetic significance. Among the works of Pina Bausch, Kontakthof(1978) was created in associationwith the elderly people over 65 years old(2000), and the same work is examined with teenagers(2008).
Through the discussion of her unique process, the researcher summarizes the social functions ofcommunity dance to the followings: first, a sense of accomplishment and self-esteem. Each of theparticipants walked out of their own life’s experience, joined in the practices of dance; second,strengthened communication among participants. The function emphasized by the work is to form aclose bond through open communication among the members; lastly, social integration throughunderstanding and unity of the community. The original work and the following versions were separatefrom one another and designed for communitcation in each group. Further, the community integrationwas sought from the connection among the three works.
