This essay aims to examine significant theories surrounding Development Studies and relevant literatures including Lipset, Rueschemeyer, O’Donnell, Gerschenkron and to seek the major factor of South Korea’s democratisation in 1980s, focusing on the ‘Bureaucratic Development Society Theory’ introduced by H. Elsenhans. According to the observation, series of considerable events including the ‘6.29 Declaration’ in 1987, ‘Grand Labour Struggle’ are the result of the dynamic materialistic transformations overarching social, political and economic area, such as the change of international economy, the reformation of industrial policy, the change of industrial structure, the decline of State Class, the rearrangement of political geography, the growth of labour movement. In spite of past outstanding researches and academic achievement, the clear consensus regarding democratization has not been resolved. It is expected that the internal political power structure could be examined through this dissertation.
