There are some kinship between Chinese Daoist notion and Korean Sun-gyo notion, i.e., korean traditional Daoist notion. In this paper, I will examine the kinship between the ancient Dong-yi’s cultural tradition and Korean cultural tradition on the basis of Shen-xian thought, i.e., Daoist immortal thought.
But, on the birthplace of Shen-xian notion, there are various assertions and until be under controversy among scholars. So called Dong-yi, we can distinguish it by broad and narrow sense. In the broad sense, it covers ancient Dong-yi bribes who live in the northeastern Manchuria, Heilong liver’s area and the Korean peninsula. In the narrow sense, it includes Dong-yi tribes who reside in Shan-dong area, eastern He-nan area, Yangzi and Huai rivers area, and the Han liver area. I claim that the birthplace of Shen-xian notion was originated from Dong-yi’s of the broad sense basically.
The core notions of Shen-xian is notions for soaring sky and immortal body. The notions of Xian-ren who does Sleeve dancing and soar in the sky certainly originated from ancient Dong-yi cultures. So in the Warring states period, it is a reasonable assertion that thoughts of Shen-xian’ schools was rooted in the state Yan and state Qi areas.
Shaman in the ancient Dong-yi tribes was expert on soaring sky and their notion of flying in the sky has to do with Bird totem. Therefore, I can draw a conclusion that thought of Shen-xian surely originated from Bird totem of ancient Dong-yi trabes.
Korean culture is inherently shamanic culture and faith of Shen-xian, i.e., daoistic immortal man. Many centuries later, Choe Chi-Weon(A.D.857 ~unknown), who was a famous scholar in Silla period (about the late 9th century in three kingdom era of ancient Korea), also specified the Dao of ‘Hyun-Myo (Xuan-Miao)’, ‘Pung-Lyu do’(Dao of Feng-liu), spirit of ‘Hwa-Rang do’, which is that Silla’s chivalry members was trained the discipline. Choe’s Xian-Jiao concepts also was originated from this ancient Dong-yi’s Xian-Jiao culture, i.e., ancient Korean shamanism. We also could know the notion of ‘Sam-Shin San (a mountain that three immortal beings live in) from this notion. At that time, a number of Shin-Sun (Daoist immortal man) live in and many kind of elixir plants grow in the Korean peninsula. From this facts, we come to know that Silla area was just Sun-Hyang (Xian-Xiang, 仙鄉) that Shin-Suns live in and elixir plants grow in. From this conclusion, I also can say that the first Korean wave affected on the ancient chinese Yan and Qi’s culture.
