Based on the awareness that general education or general education colleges are becoming a battleground of conflicting interests within the university, this study reflects the current position of the general education literature lecture related to Chung-ang University and presents literary education as necessary general education.
Literary texts display the humanistic experience of human life as a universal symbol through systematic language. Thus, literature can be defined as the most important ingredient in educational literature, where the subject can experience life and its geopolitical aspects. The literary text and subject (reader) attain the understanding, analysis, and evaluation of literature through interaction. Through these processes, the subject focuses primarily on the linguistic characteristics of literary texts, followed by understanding their structural form eventually determining the context surrounding literary texts and evaluating their meaning. Thus, the subject of self-reliance is nurtured with an autonomous self and independent entity that can communicate with the world. Hence, literature on liberal arts education should be strengthened further.
Currently, general education for literature in Korean universities is not beyond the scope of “ Academic egoism.” The first step in solving this problem begins with creating a strong organization that can assemble all its faculty members and reshape the cultural curriculum entirely. Through this strong organization, it is important to significantly increase general education courses across academic boundaries and disciplines. This can also assist students to engage in academic studies that can contribute to expanding their academic background.

이 연구는 교양교육 또는 교양대학이 대학 내 이해 충돌의 첨예한 격전장이 되고 있다는 문제의식을 바탕으로, 중앙대학교 문학 관련 교양 강좌 운영 현황을 반성적으로 검토하여 바람직한 교양교육으로서 문학교육의 방향을 제시하려는 목적으로 작성되었다.
문학텍스트는 인간의 구체적인 경험이 조직적인 언어를 통해 삶의 보편적인 의미로 형상화되는 과정을 보여준다. 따라서 문학은 주체가 언어를 매개로 삶의 구체성과 총체성을 경험할 수 있는 교양교육의 가장 중요한 재료라 할 수 있다. 문학텍스트와 주체(독자)는 상호작용을 통해서, 문학텍스트에 대한 이해·분석·해석·평가에 도달하게 된다. 그리고 이러한 일련의 과정을 통해 주체(독자)는, 일차적으로 문학텍스트의 언어적 특징에 주목하고, 이어서 문학텍스트의 구조적 형식을 파악하고, 이를 문학텍스트를 둘러싼 콘텍스트와 연결하여, 마지막에는 문학텍스트의 미학적·정치적 의미를 평가하는 단계에 이르게 된다. 그리고 이를 통해, 주체(독자)는 자신의 이성과 감성을 활용하여 타자 그리고 세계와 소통할 수 있는 자율적이고 독립적인 주체로 탄생하게 된다. 이러한 의미에서 대학의 교양 관련 문학교육은 더욱 강화되어야 한다.
현재 한국 대학에서 실시하고 있는 문학 관련 교양 강좌는 ‘영역 분과주의’를 넘어서지 못하고 있다. 이 문제를 해소할 수 있는 첫걸음은, 중앙대학교 대학구성원들이 모든 역량을 집결하여 교양교육 과정 전체를 개편할 수 있는 강한 조직을 만드는 일에서 시작될 수 있다. 이 강한 조직을 통해, 학문 간 경계를 넘어 서로 횡단하고 통섭하는 교양 강좌를 대폭 늘리는 일이 시급하다. 이는 복수전공이 활성화 된 대학교에서 학생들을 인문학 관련 전공으로 유도하는 데도 기여할 수 있으며, 또한 학문후속세대가 자신의 학문적 이력을 심화하고 확장하는 데도 기여할 수 있다.
