The purpose of this study was to empirically explore the causal relationship among middle school students’ perception on physical education classes, their sense of community and satisfaction with school life. For this purpose, this study collected data on 433 middle school students in Seoul and Kyeongin area and conducted descriptive statistical analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and structural equation model analysis by using statistical programs, SPSS 20.0 version and AMOS 20.0 version.
Results of this study are as follows. First, middle school students’ perception on physical education classes has significant effect on their sense of community. Second, middle school students’ sense of community has significant effect on their satisfaction with school life. Third, middle school students’ perception on physical education classes has significant effect on their satisfaction with school life. Fourth, there are causal relationship among middle school students’ perception on physical education classes, sense of community and satisfaction with school life. Positive perception on physical education and physical activities has positive effect on students’ cultivation of personal character and development of morality such as sense of community and boosts their satisfaction with school life. Therefore, it is necessary to raise students’ sense of community and enhance the level of their satisfaction with school life by establishing systematic physical education programs which can increase students’ feeling of happiness and holistic growth.
