This paper is to considered materials on Korean shamanism, titled The Mudang-Raeryuk(The Origin of Shaman) and it’s similar copies such as Kut 12 Geori-Do(A Picture on 12 Shamanistic Rituals), Munyo-Nyunjonghangsa-Jeolcha- Mokryok(A Catalogue on Shaman’s Annual Rituals) and Munyeo-Yi(The Shaman’s Rituals). So I tried to bring up to problems and tasks for understanding these materials.
At first, I introduced outlines of two kind of The Mudang-Raeryuk and it’s three similar copies.
Second, I observed history of studies on The Mudang-Raeryuk and it’s similar copies from it’s discovery to present time.
Third, I examined and compared contents of The Mudang-Raeryuk and it’s similar copies. So I find some difference, for examples sequences of rituals, but commonness which is that they all insisted Korean shamanism is originated from Tangun, founder of Korean nation.
Forth, I considered where are aims of making The Mudang-Raeryuk and it’s similar copies. I thought that their aims were to insist to shamanism not so much superstition as base of Korean culture. And so they are critics to present shamanism are distorted from original forms.
Fifth, I considered who produced these copies. My conclusions are that they inhabitants of Seoul or it’s suburbs, and had a certain degree of learning to use Chinese characters. Besides they were not shaman, but had much understanding on shamanism.
Sixth, I examined the produced time of The Mudang-Raeryuk and it’s three similar copies. According to widely held view, Ko-Doseo copy of The Mudang-Raeryuk was produced in 1885. But I denied this view and it was 1920’ based on some reasons, as self rescue from persecution to shamanism. And so I guessed another copies were also produced in close vicinity to 1920’.
At last, I assumed the sequence of production time of The Mudang-Raeryuk and it’s similar copies. My conclusion on this problem is that provisionally; Ko-Doseo copy of The Mudang-Raeryuk→Karam-copy of The Mudang-Raeryuk→Munyeo-Yi→ Kut 12 Geori-Do→Munyo-Nyunjonghangsa-Jeolcha-Mokryok.
