General divine action refers to God’s universal action in guiding all events, on the other hand, special divine action refers to God’s particular acts in specific moments, whether they are found in personal life or in history. It leads us that God should interrupt or stop the natural law with intervention to conduct special events. Top-down causality can allow the divine action to better interpretation-cannot be compensated for bottom-up causality alone-as far as chance or miraculous events. That’s why not all the effects of God’s action happen at the level of gene or quantum. Not all the properties of living matters are originated in the properties of their components such as atoms or molecules, but the whole is affected by the parts to some extent.
The information-inflow from God is similar to energy-inflow, and it seems to be breaking the natural law as a result. Like this, the divine action that cannot be explained with contemporary science may be appropriate for top-down causality, that is, the viewpoint that can be considered as not breaking the natural law. We can perceive that the intervention is related with the notion of energy. We can also notice that, inversely, non-intervention isn’t related with energy or doesn’t violate the natural law and makes the information-inflow possible without stopping any regularities. Though, all living systems are autonomous. It doesn’t mean that living organisms are isolated or separated from the environment. In other words, it is possible to inflow information without relating or consuming energy. It may be interpreted that top-down causality is able to take place without violating the natural law.

‘신의 일반섭리’는 모든 사건을 인도하시는 하느님의 보편적 행위를 언급하는 반면, 개인의 삶이나 역사 속에서 찾아볼 수 있는 ‘신의 특별섭리’는 특정한 순간에 신의 특별한 행위를 언급한다. 이는 신이 특별한 사건 속에서 행동하기 위하여 자연법칙에 간섭하거나 자연법칙을 멈춰야 한다고 이해되기도 한다. 하향식 인과율은 상향식 인과율만으로는 보상될 수 없는 우연이나 기적과 같은 사건까지 더 나은 해석이 가능하게 해준다. 이는 신적행위의 모든 영향이 유전자나 양자(quantum) 수준에서 일어나는 것은 아니기 때문이다. 살아있는 생명체의 모든 특성이 원자나 분자와 같은 그들의 구성 성분의 특성에서 기원하는 것은 아니지만, 전체는 부분에 의해 어느 정도 영향을 받게 된다.
신으로부터의 정보 유입은 에너지 유입과 유사하며, 이는 결과적으로 자연법칙을 위반하는 것처럼 보인다. 이와 같이 현대과학으로 설명되기 어려운 신적 행위를 언급하는 하향식 인과율이 자연법칙을 위반하지 않고서도 가능하다는 견해로 설명할 수 있다. ‘개입’이 에너지 개념과 관련된다면, 역으로 ‘비개입’은 에너지와 관련되지 않거나 자연법칙을 위반하지 않으며, 어떠한 규칙성을 멈추지 않는다.
생물체의 세포막은 이온(ion)과 하전(荷電)되지 않는 분자들의 통로에 대해 매우 효율적인 장벽이다. 세포막 안팎으로 물질을 유입하거나 유출하는 물질수송의 경우, 대부분의 세포막에서는 세포막 안과 세포막 바깥의 용액의 농도 차이를 이용하는 방식을 취하고 있다. 세포의 전체 시스템이 기능적으로 열려 있으면서 동시에 형태적으로 닫혀 있으므로 유기물과 무기물, 물이나 기체 등과 같은 물질의 유입과 유출이 발생하게 된다. 이러한 유기적 폐쇄는 살아있는 시스템이 어떤 의미로는 자기조직화이며, 그것의 규칙성과 유지는 환경에 의해 영향을 받을 뿐 아니라 시스템 그 자체에 의해 형태를 이루게 된다. 살아있는 시스템은 자율적이다. 이는 살아있는 생명체들이 환경으로부터 고립되어 있거나 분리되어 있는 것을 의미하지는 않는다. 다시 말해서 에너지를 소모하지 않거나 에너지와 관련되지 않고서도 정보 유입의 과정이 가능하다는 것이다. 따라서 하향식 인과율이 자연법칙을 위반하지 않고 일어날 수 있다는 해석이 가능해진다.
