The purpose of this study is to learn about the before-and-after effects of participation in school sports programs on elementary school students with regards to their changes in individual personality characteristics. The target schools of this research were schools in the Seoul city and Gyeong-gi Province area. There were 248 collective participants involved in this personality sports program study. Each categorical average and standard deviation was calculated using the statistics program IBM SPSS 18.0.
Frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis and variance analysis were initiated according to the participation of the after school program. The level of statistical significance was set at 95%. Results of the study were as the following. Firstly, 4th and 6th grade students showed higher level of caring on average in sub-factors of personality from the result of analyzing personality difference by grade among individual characteristics. Secondly, from the result of analyzing personality differences by gender, female students showed higher level in cooperation, male students in responsibility and female students in caring respectively on average. Thirdly, from the result of analyzing personality differences by living environment, house and others showed higher level in responsibility on average among sub-factors of personality. Fourthly, from the result of analyzing personality differences by the number of institutes, there were no differences among the groups on average in sub-factors of personality. Fifthly, from the result of analyzing personality differences by exercise time in sub-factors of the personality, the group of over 2 hours exercise showed the highest level in cooperation on average. Sixthly, from the result of analyzing personality differences by sleeping time, there were no differences among the groups on average.
