The purpose of this study was to examine changes in the aiming ability of children with increasing age by analyzing the performance level of dart throwing. A total of 30 boys participated in the experiment as subjects, and performed dart throwing task in the distance of 1.5 m and 2.5 m with dominant and non-dominant hand. From the measured data, the average radial error and the average variable error were calculated and analyzed by 3-way ANOVAs(age×distance×hand) with repeated measures on the last two factors. The accuracy and consistency of performance increased with increasing age, and were higher in the 1.5 m condition than the 2.5 m and in the dominant hand condition than the non-dominant. However, the interaction of the age, distance, and hand conditions was also significant. Analysis of the difference in dart throwing between dominant and non-dominant hand conditions by the age analyzed in each distance condition revealed that the accuracy of performance was higher in the dominant hand condition than the non-dominant in all age groups regardless of the distance. The consistency of performance in the 1.5 m condition was higher in the dominant hand condition than the non-dominant in all age groups, whereas that in the 2.5 m condition was not different between hand conditions in the age group of six and nine years. However, the difference was significant in the age group of twelve years, higher in the dominant hand condition than the non-dominant. These results suggest that the aiming ability as well as motor ability of the hand increases with increasing age, implying that the eye-hand coordination is already formed in the childhood.
