Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the characteristics of isokinetic muscle strength, muscle average power, muscle endurance ratio, unilateral balance ratio, and bilateral balance ratio on the shoulder joints of dominant side and non-dominant side. Design: Twenty male university baseball players and 20 male non-players were instructed to exert isokinetic shoulder extension and flexion on the load speed of 60° /sec, 180° /sec with supine position using the Cybex 770. Independent t-test was performed for the statistics. Results: 1) The extension and flexion muscle strengths on shoulder joint of the baseball players were significantly higher than those of the non-players for the dominant side. For the non-dominant side, only the extension of the baseball players was significantly higher than that of the non players. 2) The isokinetic strengths(% body weight) of the extension and flexion on the shoulder joint from the dominant side and non-dominant side were not significantly different between the groups. 3) The average isokinetic power of the baseball players from the dominant side was significantly higher than that of the non-players. The average extension power of the baseball players from the non-dominant side were significantly higher than that of the non-players. 4) The isokinetic endurance ratio were not significantly different between the groups from both dominant and non-dominant sides. 5) The unilateral balance ratio of the extension and flexion on the shoulder joint from the dominant side was not significantly different between the groups. However, for the non-dominant side, the balance ratio of the extension and flexion on the shoulder joint of the baseball players was significantly lower than that of the non-players. 6) The bilateral balance deficit of dominant and non-dominant side were found as normal for both groups.
