Up to now there was no elaborate analysis on Choi In Ho`s The Homeland of Stars because it was thought to be a commercial novel. Therefore I will start to reread this novel. To begin with, The Homeland of Stars is not the simple story about a woman, Oh Kyunga and its present self Kim Moon Oh reconstitutes their(his and kyunga`s) past experience by his own memory, especially confessional discourse. The narrator ``I`` represent the dual voice that reveals the subject differently according to the object(or event) of confession. Kim Moon Oh, the narrator for displaying Kyunga, has some relation with two women of the opposite tendencies, his alumna Han Haejung and Oh Kyunga. Han Haejung is closely connected with modern city, Seoul, who remind us of ``the missionary`` ``the game of outstaring each other``, but on the other hand Kyunga is symbolized the world of accident and uncertainty who remind us of ``the habit of collection`` ``the fortune-teller`` ``the song`` ``a tear``. Moon Oh who alternates between them chooses the place of Haejung. It may be interpreted the text keeps subject`s position by internalizing the logic of the modern space. Finally Oh Kyunga kills herself. Her death is described a kind of ritual scapegoat by collective violence. We can think that she is applicable to ``the other`` that was dislodged from central discourse by the paradigm of ``modern``. From the viewpoint, The Homeland of Stars can be reconstituted the story of Oh Kyunga as a sacrifice caused by the violence of identification and the maximum of making ``the other``.
