Because the <Mansejeon> is a kind of autobiographical retrospect narration, the `I` in the novel is divided into a protagonist(＇narrated I＇in time of an experience) and a narrator(＇narrating I＇in time of a narration). Although two actors have a common designation, `Lee In Hwa`, they are in fact different characters because they are the characters in a different time and space. While the voices of two actors in <Mansejeon> are cross each other, it is an omniscient intervention of a narrator that leads a narrative process in the former part and it is the narration of a protagonistic focalization in the latter part. This kind of a form in <Mansejeon> offers sufficiently the motive which analyze the aspect of narrative art. When a protagonist is <the bystander> or <the passive observer> to the reality of a colony. a narrator leads a narrative process by the intervention of comment and explanation. When a protagonist becomes `the active observer`, a narrator gives a protagonist the narrative authority. This kind of a narrative art is a coherent tactics for a narrator to link a individual life and a social, historical life. Analyzing the narrative art in <Mansejeon> is the entrance which access to the structure in depth, the meaning of a novel. The structure in depth is the process of a protagonist＇s inner growth as well as the process of an awakening to the social, historical life. Understanding the structure in depth is naturally associated with the understanding conclusive structure of <Mansejeon>. The conclusion of <Mansejeon> is open, which has a meaningful, creative power in itself that completes a fifteen days. protagonistic experiential time as an eternal present in the life of `Lee In Hwa`. The story time that is set up for a meaningful moment in life of `Lee In Hwa` is also a significant time socially and historically in that it shows the tendency of the eve of Cheers Movement, 1919. Narrative art of <Mansejeon> reflects on and completes the inner growth of a protagonist, therefore this contributes to deciding the forming of a theme. Especially, the art and the form in which open conclusion addition to narrative, art have, pass over expressing means, take part in forming its theme, and itself produce meaning. By these important roles the art and the form are affirmed that these complete the meaning of a novel. The art and the form, themselves＇meaningful creative power set limits, if only one text is investigated. More texts being investigated, themselves＇ meaningful creative power being gotten a thorough going over, in addition to unique esthetic effect and style, these affirmation will be hard.
