This study attempts to introduce five insightful English picture books written and illustrated by Babette Cole, an inspiring contemporary English picture book author. This study also hopes to reveal the key components of Babette Cole’s works which can be applied in learning and teaching English, although authentic English picture books have rarely been considered in connection with English reading and learning. Cole has written books centering on individual, sensitive, societal issues, language learners of English can find her books interesting, authentic, and interactive. Reading the selected books can widen the readers’ perspective toward their inner selves, and at the same time, their outer worlds.
