The aim of this study was a comparative study on the oral health behaviors of Health-Related and Health-Unrelated Majors in school. This cross-sectional study included 2,788 students(1,536 males and 1,252 females)(670 Health-Related Majors and 2,119 Health-Unrelated Majors). A self-administered questionnaire was distributed.
The proportion of toothbrushes portable according to the majors were as follows: health-related majors 473(70.6%) from 670 students and health-unrelated majors 770(36.4%) from 2,118 students. And, oral health behaviors(tooth brushing in school, use of dental floss or interdental brushes and after drinking of tooth) were better in carrying a toothbrush group than no-carrying group. The above-mentioned findings showed more intensive oral-health education should be provided for health-related and health-unrelated majors college students to promote their oral health state.

본 연구는 대학생을 대상으로 칫솔 휴대 여부에 따른 구강건강관리행태를 파악하여, 대학생이 학교에서 구강건강관리를 수행하지 않는 이유를 탐색하고, 대학생들의 바람직한 구강건강관리활동 및 프로그램 개발을 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 본 연구에 참여한 대상자는 부산 소재 K대학 재학생 2,788명이었다. 남성은 1,536명(48.7%), 여성은 1,252명(51.3%)이었고, 전공별로는 보건계열이 670명(24.0%), 비보건계열이 2,118명(76.0%)으로 나타났다. 전공에 따른 칫솔 휴대 비율은 보건계열 670명 중 473명(70.6%)였고, 비보건계열 2,118명 중 770명(36.4%)로 보건계열 학생이 칫솔을 휴대하는 비율이 더 높은 것으로 조사되었다. 칫솔을 휴대한 1,243명의 학생 중에서 외부에서 식사 후 칫솔질을 꼭 해야 하기 때문에 휴대해야 한다고 응답한 대상자는 보건계열이 74.8%로 비보건계열보다 높았고, 칫솔 휴대 여부에 따른 구강건강관리행태는 칫솔을 휴대하고 있는 그룹에서 학교 내 칫솔질 실천율과 치실이나 치간솔의 사용율, 음주 후 칫솔질 실천율이 칫솔을 휴대하지 않는 그룹보다 더 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 학교 내에서 칫솔질 실천율을 조사한 결과, 학교에서 이를 닦는 비율은 42.8%로 나타나, 학생들의 절반 이상이 학교에서 이를 닦지 않는 것으로 조사되었으며, 그 이유를 조사한 결과, ‘귀찮아서 이를 닦지 않는다’는 비율이 가장 높았다. 대학생들의 구강보건에 대한 신념과 태도 및 지식을 올바르게 형성시키려면, 현 시점에서는 대학생을 대상으로 구강보건교육을 우선적으로 시행하는 것이 시급하며, 칫솔 배분이나 칫솔 교체 사업 등과 같은 실질적인 대학생 대상 건강증진활동이 필요할 것으로 사료되었다.
