The aim of this paper is to compare final ending, ‘-tela’ in Korean with ‘laizhe’ in Mandarin Chinese, based on the perspective of evidentiality which has been actively researched in linguistic typology. Both ‘-tela’ in Korean and ‘laizhe’ in Mandarin Chinese appear in the position at the ending of the sentences, representing the meaning of retrospective. Both of the final endings, consequently, could be assumed to have some common grammatical features. Korean scholars regard ‘-te-’ in ‘-tela’ as evidential in Korean. Accordingly, I considered it is necessary to research ‘laizhe’ in Mandarin Chinese in perspective of evidentiality. When expressing speaker’s information source, both ‘-tela’ and ‘laizhe’ represents the perception of past experience. As for subject restriction, a speaker generally cannot use with first person. However, it would be less restricted, if the speaker realizes the past behavior based on endophoric reflection and external perception. The meaning of deferred realization could be represented while the speaker use ‘-tela’ as evidential, combining with past tense marker ‘-ess-’ in Korean; however the meaning is rather ambiguous when using ‘laizhe’, due to the lack of past tense marker in Mandarin Chinese. Furthermore, ‘-tela’ and ‘laizhe’ are out of scope of negation. Also both of them co-occur with reported evidentials. Finally, ‘-tela’ and ‘laizhe’ are usually used in declarative sentence but when they are used in Wh-questions, it means only during the period when speaker cannot recollect the memory
