This study focused on the color of metaphor through the lexeme ‘mind’ compared to Korean and Chinese. According to Cognitive Linguistics, we understand the abstract ‘mind’ through ‘color’. In this respect, this study investigates the mind"s meaning both Korean and Chinese.
Both languages equally classify black, white, red, yellow, green, blue, and grey. However, there are four differences in the way of expression. First, the white mind is a good mood in Korean, but the mind is a bad mood in Chinese. Second, the white is conceptualized the good in Korean, but the red is conceptualized the good in Chinese. Third, Chinese expresses the mind with yellow more diversely th an Korean. Especially Chinese expresses erotic with yellow. Fourth, the green or blue mind is young and spirit in Korean, but the mind is hopeful and angry in Chinese.
Thus, the reasons as mentioned. people express mind through conceptualized color domains. In other words, people perceive the same concept to the different point, and people have different mechanisms under language and culture. Each language has unique characteristics to express the mind with colors.
