This study surveyed housewife with young children to investigate the purchasing status and their perceptions of food-nutrition labeling on organic food. Ninety-two percent of survey subjects had the experience of purchasing organic food, and the frequency of purchase was “10〜29%” was most common (14.9%). They usually purchased organic food at “supermarket” (53.0%), but others also purchased at “professional organic market” (27.4%). The main reason for purchasing of organic food was for “environmental-friendly” with 47.6%. When checking the food labeling, “nutritional ingredients” was the highest consideration (29.5%). The main information source was “internet” (37.9%) and intention toward re-purchase was high (55.6%). In terms of checking food-nutrition labeling when purchasing organic food, 44.4% answered “often”, and 40.3% placed confidence in the food-nutrition labeling. Reasons for checking food-nutrition labeling were “to obtain nutrition information” (29.0%), followed by “to check for harmful ingredients” (27.3%) and “to check for expiration date” (24.5%). The most frequently cited reason for not checking food-nutrition labeling was “purchase out of habits” (31.0%), followed by “hard to understand label” (20.2%). Factors considered for checking the quality of organic food were: “origin and amount” (36.7%), “nutrition” (24.0%), “expiration date” (21.4%), “storage” (10.2%), and “precautions” (6.8%). In awareness of food-nutrition labeling, “choosing organic food that keeps me healthy” was the highest factor with 3.95±0.81.
