This paper aims to develop a teaching tool on appropriate technology which is a small scale, affordable, environmentally friendly, and human-faced technology. To this end, an evaluation card for appropriate technology has been developed with seven evaluation criteria and then applied in an eduction programme on appropriate technology for middle and high school students, in order to ensure that the developed evaluation card can sufficiently serve to help them to evaluate the characteristics of each appropriate technology. Consequently, it has been noted that the evaluation results showed that some appropriate technologies need to be improved in terms of affordability and local repair such that the card would be useful in assisting students to understand and evaluate existing and new appropriate technologies. The evaluation card, however, needs to be further improved by going through in-depth reviews of relevant experts, securing a sufficient time period for evaluation, and being used for more various appropriate technologies. Finally, it has been noted that existing eduction programmes on appropriate technology is likely to be biased towards theoretical aspects and overseas examples of appropriate technologies. It has been thus recommended based on the case study that a future eduction programme on appropriate technology should keep in balance between delivery of conceptual knowledge on appropriate technologies, and their actual application and practices.
