This essay has reviewed the contents and outcomes of papers to the history of Koryo of Suematsu Kasukazu that was a professor in Gakushuin University, a chief scholar on the history of Korea-Japan relation and Korea`s ancient history in overlap of conflict and competition between the two nations of 20th century. And then, it has presented the position and the issue of these papers in the study of Korea`s medieval history. The 5 papers are not connected to each other. But these are important materials to understand the political system of Koryo.
These papers was published fiftyears age is regarded as outstanding work so far. Also, his accuracy to historical material greatly affected to follow-up research. Some academics emphasized heteronomy on the Korean peninsula before the war. But the traces were never found in his papers.
However, it is not his limitation but a limitation of the history community of that time that is wanting. One of the reasons is that there were not many scholars that studied to the history of Koryo at that time.
