Epigraphic sources coming from Israel shed light on the larger framework of the Old Testament world. From the end of the 19th century to 1990, many inscriptions have been discovered that have significance for understanding the Old Testament and ancient Israel. Inscriptions discovered till 1990, they were almost ostraca from Lachish, Mesad Hashavyahu, Arad and Gibeon, which were private or official letters. Inscriptions from after 1990 - Dan Inscription (1993-4), Ekron Inscription (1996) and Moussaieff Ostracon (1997) contain two royal inscriptions, especially Jehoash Inscription from Temple Mount was the first royal inscription in Israel. These inscriptions provide many information on Old Testament studies including Israelite history, ancient Hebrew, biblical geography and even biblical Aramaic. These inscriptions show the historicity of biblical narratives and Davidic dynasty. These inscriptions help to understand biblical term such as ‘the ship of Tarshish’ denoting trading ship. Moussaieff Ostracon, and Jehoash Inscription from Temple Mount provide information on Israelite religion institution, raising money for Temple with special collection or vow. Aramatic inscription from Tell Dan refers to the Israelite and Juadhite monarchs Joram and Ahaziah, respectively and most significantly calls the dynasty of Judah the “house of David.” It shows the political situation and geographical change in the late 9th century BC. At this time Aramaic power stretched their power till Tell Dan in the western part of Galilee, which does not mention in the Old Testament. Philistin inscription from Ekron identifies Tell Miqneh with biblical Ekron. Texts from 1990 help to further an understanding of Old Testament materials and ancient Israelite history.
