The Purpose of this article is not to find out the meaning of the whole story, but rather to focus on how the author of the story used the terms, ?? and ?? which are two different major geographic words. Generally, n97tt is used as the surface of ?? or agricultural land. In Genesis 2-3, however, these two terms appear to be used as the land of creation and the earth of uncreation. Evidently, r?? is used in the literary context of which explains the situation prior to creation(Gen 2:4b-6). In ?? there were no plants, a7m and water. Accordingly, Yahweh`s creative activity in Genesis 2:714 is related to the making these three factors. On the contrary, the land that is created by Yahweh has ?? plants, and water. And this land is called ??. Accordingly, ?? is not limited to the land of agriculture but expanded to that of creation. If this idea is correct, we may infer that the author intentionally expresses three different types of land. The first is ?? in the Garden of Eden which is the land of creation. The second is another ?? which is located outside the Garden. Originally, this land with the rivers (Gen 2:10-14) was not ?? but ?? when ?? was still in the Garden, because ?? was not there. However, after the expulsion of ?? from the Garden, the land outside the Garden became the ?? that brought forth the plants(Gen 3:18). The third is ??, which is the earth prior to creation. This is the earth of uncreation. The story of Cain and Abel shows us that these two terms are also different places. For example, Cain was driven out from ?? to ??, the earth of uncreation and that of absence of Yahweh(Gen 4:12, 14, 16). Therefore, these two terms are not exchangeable to each other, but rather the technical terms that are intentionally used by the author.
