This paper was intended to suggest national policies for Korean language education (KLE) corresponding to the New Globalization age, when many foreigners are eager to learn KL. Considering the status of KL in the world, the author of this study argues that KLE should emphasize the co-existence and co-prosperity with other languages. Suggested are national policies as follows. First, the Language typology is needed in the based research. Second, ‘the constructing of the learner error corpus’, ‘the publishment of various kinds of dictionary’ are required. Third, ‘the curriculum of teaching foreigners KL must be established in the curriculum of the Department of KLE as well as the curriculum of the teacher’s training. Fourth, we must be more concerned about the North Korean youth refugees who were born in the third country. Fifth, there must be much interest in the heritage language education for children of multicultural families in Korea as well as the heritage language education for overseas Korean. Finally, ‘the local language advisory committee’ is proposed to raise the children of multicultural families in Korea as global citizens.
